Christine Tier
Christine Tier was raised on Canadian roots icons like Gordon Lightfoot and Joni Mitchell in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. She started writing songs on her first Fender guitar at age 16 and studied classical voice at the local conservatory. Putting her classical training to good use, she bellowed country and rock cover tunes in a local bar band - where she had a great deal of fun, and learned a thing or two about playing for the “tough crowd”.
Like many small town people, her need to explore carried her away. Living in Elliot Lake, Ottawa, Galveston Texas, Kingston, and finally Toronto, she carried with her a deep passion for song writing.
In Toronto, she fell in love with jazz and Brazilian music. For three years she played chocalio and surdo with the Toronto percussion ensemble “Escola de Samba” and was featured in the independent film "We are Samba”. When she wasn’t banging drums she continued to write songs. When friends complained they could not get her songs out of their heads, Christine knew it was time to make her first CD.
Together with Canadian producer Paul Milner, Christine gathered some of the best players on the Toronto scene, including Al Cross, Fergus Marsh, Kevin Breit and Nick “Brownman” Ali. Her self-titled debut CD (released in 2007) is a blend of sultry, irresistible music that seamlessly moves between soft jazz and thoughtful folk, with pop, country and alternative rock influences. The song “Missing”, was a “runner up” in the U.S. “Song of the Year” contest.
And now, the songs continue to arrive and it’s time for a new CD.
